Ride from Louisville Ky to my home sweet home 08/30/08

Rode from Louisville to my home today
and had a beautiful sunny day Really
a great day to be alive and riding
at almost 80 yrs old God has been good
to me on this trip and I have really
enjoyed every moment of the time.I
rode 245 mi's today for a total of 3200 mi
on my trip. Not bad for a older person
this should be and inspiration for other
people to get out and scooter ride forever

Ride from Knoxville Tn to Louisville Ky 08/29/08

Made 243Mi's today and had a beautiful
ride thru horse country the State was
named right the Bluegrass state. Didn't
see too much blue but was pretty.
Had a really good day to ride until I got caught
in a downpour 30 miles from Loiusville and
rainsuit didn't stop us getting wet Spent
about 30mins under car overpass and wind
must have been blowing 70MPH because it was
all the way underwet took forever to get
dry at motel.Tomorrow is supposed to be sunny
the rest of my way home

Ride From Spartanburg to Knoxville 08/28/08

Well today was the day we decided to get
on the road enough laying in the motel doing
nothing ride was a good one only 180 mi
and only one little shower so overall had a
very good day Tomorrow will be a longer day

Rainy Wed Not much to do 08/27/08

Today was rainy but Boots and I were getting
cabin fever after 5 days in the motel so decided
to take a little ride anyway got caught in the
rain 5 times in about 40 min so it was put on
raingear and take it off 5 mins later.Took a few
pictures of the biggest college in Spartanburg
and pictures of the staduim is where the North
Carolina Panthers train

Well another day holed up at the Motel still raining
and tornadoes,so looks like I'm going to be stuck
where I am for at least another day
Went out for breakfast for Boots and I. Had to wear rain gear

Boots and I got up this morning to another day of rain
and gloom I went and got us breakfast at McDonalds.we
ate and laid back down for a short nap.Went down and
paid another night lodging.
Tomorrow I.m thinking of changing direction and try to
outrun the storm norht back thru the Mountians of North
Carolina thru West Virginia then hit I-64 and bug west
to home
We really got bored this afternoon went house hunting
and a little fruit shopping got caught in the rain and ran
for home where Boots jumped back into bed.
Went this evening and got chicken for supper
Needless to say house hunting was no good.

Slow Sun in Spartanburg went sightseeing 08/24/08

Got bored this afternoon and decided to do a bit of sightseeing at
the Cowpens Battlefield where a cow pen was turned into one of
bloodiest battles in history Driiving thru the woods and fields you

could almost sense the battles

After a restful night got up this morning and started do some

serious thinking about the route I was taking,the route had

steeper hills more twisties and I decided that wasn't what I

wanted.

I left Danville Va went to Winston Salem NC,Greensboro,

Salisbury, Charlotte and wound up in Spartenburg,SC Rode

about 195mi nd tomorrow plan on going to Atlanta GA,and

then west thru Al Will post events tomorrow

Fri Ride 08/22/08

Started the morning after a fast breakfast at Macdonalds

left Virginia Beach VA and headed west went thru Norfolk,

Portsmouth, Suffix and after 200miles wound up in Danville

Va where I'm spending the night. Tomorrow I'm starting

north and west ride

Have made almost 2200 mi so far and still having a ball

riding but would be much nicer if I had companion.

After a very restful night last night got up and was at the

ferry at 6:30am Spent 2 1/2 hrs on the one went Orocoke

where the first thing I saw off the ferry were 50cc scooters for

rent.rode 13mi to catch the next ferry after having a big

breakfast that ferry was 1 hr and went to Cape Hatteras

started north again. went to Kill Devil Hill And Kitty Hawk

where the Wright brother got their start,on northto Currituck NC

where I caught another ferry for and hour to Virigina Beach Va

On Fri plan on angling back to the west

Spent Tues night in Kinston Nc started this morning went

to New Bern ,Havelock,Morehead then on to Cedar Island

also known as SkeeterIsland,one stood flatfoot and bite me on my

behind(big huh) I arrived to late to catch the 2pm ferry

the next one was at 5pm and I wouldn't have gotten to Hatteras

until 9:30pm to late to be looking for a place so spend the night

near the ferry had a very nice dinner andreally got a good night rest.

Back on the road for 2nd part of my trip

My friend Larry woke up Sun with a allergy attack

from being near Boots the night before he had to

go to Doctor on Sun for shots.He has always had

sljght attack but as he gets older they get more sever

So to keep him breathing we decided to leave Today

instead of going Fri. We left about 7AM and did about

200mi's getting us to Kinston for the night.Tomorrow

we are leaviv early to catch the Ferry from Cedar Isle

it takes about 2h40min to make the trip should be

a chance to get some good snaps Pictures today are a little

skimpy as we are back to flat land

Got up on Mon had the day start just like Sun dreary on overcast
so I I keep a stiff upper lip,until late in the afternoon the weather
turned great.So i jumped on my bike and went to a restaurant that
I always visit. the owner has been collecting memorable since 1939,He
has quite a collection

Got up this morning and things didn't look to good for a
ride it was rainy overcast and not a good day to ride
but lo and behold after lunch sun came out and a ride was
in the future so rode about 57mi's to Morrow Mtn for lots
of curves and different elevations.I had several conversation
with some of the locals which was quite interesting,got home
after dark and by then almost needed a overcoat.
There probably won't be a blog tomorrow as I will be packing
to get on the road Tues Going to the big water on the outer
banks of NC at Cape Hatteras

Went for a ride with 4 of my good friends Larry his wife
Pat,Greg and his wife Milderd They had me overpowered
they were riding Kawasaki 1500Nomad A 1500 Classis
but I held my own in the twist and turn and the ups and
downs they my have been giving me a break however knowing
their competive nature I don't think this was happening
We rode approx 110 mi's went to the gravesite of Daniel Boone
father and motherSquire And Sarah BooneThen Went to
Daniels cave where he killed a bear Realey had a great day and
hope to have a couple more before I depart their lovely company

Ride for Fri 08/15

Took a short 90 mile ride today Started the morning
off going to Post Office to send Ozark Ed a group of
about 180 photos after that went to the Uwharrie Mts
Which is about 25 mi from the place I'm staying and on
to the Uharrie National Forest From there went to the
town of Albermarle where there was a car show that
covered the whole town.Meet some very interesting
people at the show Stayed about 2hrs then home were
I arrived about 10pm Will post pictures later as I havn't
down loaded my camera yet

Thursday Sightseeing

Got up this morning and had a beautiful day for a ride
tempatures stayed in the 70's entire day.First I did a
neccesary chore by getting a blood test to send home to
my Doctor He can't seem to get my blood level where
it should be so he keeps adjusting my medicine to get
the right level,so every 10 days have to get a blood test
and as everyone knows I'm scared to death of needles.
After the test started thru some of my old stomping
grounds, several picture showing things that are dear to

Dreary Rainy Days For a Wed

Well I woke up this morning to a downpour everything on my

bike was soaked.Had to dry everything in the dryer Spent a very

relaxing day watching TV and playing on my computer.

My host gave a fish fry with fresh fish they caught in the Lake

which is 50yds from the backsteps. Pat and Larry her husband

are hell've cooks If I stay to long the 72lbs I lost I will probably

find.

Hope to get out lookaround tomorrow as its supposed to be Sunny

for the next 4 or 5 days Yah

1st Leg Of my journey Complete

After spending all day yesterday getting my battery replaced
got on the road and had the most enjoyable days ride of my whole
trip so far took Rte 70 out of Old Fort NC all the way to my
destination,which is High Rock Lake in Salisbury NC.Friends
greeted me with open arms and stay as long as I like
Rte 70 is full of twisties and hills for about 80mi. really had fun on that
Plan on visiting in this area for 7 to 10 days then who I guess it
depends which way the wind blows

4Th day of my trip at a standstill

Woke up this bright and cheerful morning went to

start my bike and the battery was dead There

wasn't a battery to be had in Asheville NC I call

a taxi and I think he thought I was his soul source

of income when he finished with me it was 52.00

and still no battery.Finally found one at 3pm this

afternoon about 45 mi from Asheville,by this time

we had jumpered my bike and I rode it to the dealer

who also installed it for 12.oo and 87.00 for the

battery Not to bad,

So back on the road for a little site seeing,Bat Cave

Chimney Rock and route 74A a Miniture Dragon Tail

had a ball on the twisties.Back on the road tomorrow

3Rd Day of my ride

Left Cookeville Tn this morning and wasn't 20 mi on the

road and was stopped by Tn StatePolice and he started out by

informing me that mopeds were not allowed on major hwys in

Tn I informed him in my nicest language it wasn't

a damn moped Made by Yamaha and had a 400 cc engine

and he said he was going to follow me a couple miles to

see if it would maintain a 45mph speed so I jumped her

to 70mph without hesitation he followed me about 1/4 mi

and turned and went about other business .The rest of

the day was normal came thru Knoxville and thru the

Smokey Mtns to Asheville Nc For the night.So far I have

made 655mi with another 110 to reach my destination

Left Paducah Ky this morning and had a beautiful

day to ride Took the trip thru the Land of the Lakes

tp Clarkesville Tn,on to Nashville then to my final

destination but alas there was a National Hotrod

association in Lebanon so lodgeing even camping

was at a premium so decide to proceed on th Cookeville

where I encounterd the same same they had a city

wide yard sale.I found a room but prices where

outrageous

I finally started on my extended trip this morning at

9:30 Am,went thru Pickneyville,DuQuoin,Carbondale

Anna,Vienna,Metropolis where I took pictures of the

Giant Superman statue, there must have been a gremlin

in my camera because when I got to my motel in

Paducah Ky they were gone don't know where they went unless

they were destroyed by supermans x-ray vision

Went to dinner at Shu Feng and the food was outstanding
as well as the great company There were no pictures
taken as everyone forgot there cameras
Those in attendance were Ozark Ed, Steve ,Scot,Maggie,

The way things are looking the kickoff for my trip is Fri Aug 8th

Change in plans Again

Was planning on getting on the road very early today
Talked to 2 good friend Ed and Carol and they finally
convinced me it was going to be a heat index of over 110
today ,to hot for me to ride and then supposed to have
thunderstorms thru Thursday night so plans for a
departure date have changed to Friday the 8th.It's
really nice to have friends that are concerned about
my health. My children had given me the same advice
but you know children are not supposed to tell Pop what
to do.

Well another couple days and still not on the road yet
met a group at Muny opera in St Louis Sun. Along with
Maggie,Pete,Scot,Terri,Andy and Steve went for a ride
thru the city and north to the Missouri Bottoms
Conservation Area and the River Confluence.
Really nice to spend the day riding with friends on a
beautiful day Makes one glad to be alive
Plans now are to leave Tues 5th if the Lord Be willing

Well my Dr threw a wrench into my plans he needs to see me before

I leave.So another couple days before I get rolling. Went For

a short ride with the SLSC on Sunday we were at the St louis Arch

then went to Pennies for lunch of BBQ it was outstanding I then

I'm planning on leaving for and extended trip on my

Yamaha Majesty400 scooter. I plan on riding approx

150 mi per day and spend my nights in a campground

on my route.
